Silencing the Sirens

Sept '21 - Oct '21

In Greek Mythology, the main hero of Homer's Odyssey, Odysseus, voyages past a deadly island where wicked creatures cloaked in beauty, called the Sirens, beckon travelers with the enchantment of their songs to sail their ships into jagged rocks leading to their imminent death. If this life is a journey, temptations abound that seek to attract us with their calls of seduction that lead to death much like the Sirens. In this series, we are going to talk about the infamous "7 deadly sins" (i.s. Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, & Pride) and how, although they may appear beautiful at first, will always lead to destruction both in this life and of life eternal. The truth is, we cannot stop temptation from rearing its ugly head in our lives, but God did not leave us without hope to protect and avoid against them when they call. Even though we can't avoid temptation from showing up, we can indeed learn to silence their song. /
